BENQ-SIEMENS A38


The latest BenQ-Siemens A38 is a no-frills phone,so don't go about expecting a camera. It does, however,feature a 60,500 colours, 1.4-inch display,alarge phone book with support for 300 entries, storage space for 300 text messages and a privacy manager that protects the user from unwanted calls. The phone has a total of 256Kb memory that can be expanded with a RS-MMC card. Standard features include an alarm clock,a wrold clock, a calendar, a calculator as well as some few games. Nike+iPod sports kit


Nike is making running shoes that will tell the wearer how fast he or she has run and how many calories they have burned. The instant information will come from a miniature iPod and a new wireless systemcalled Nike+iPod. Using a nike+iPod Sports Kit, expected to sell for about $29, miniature versions of the iPod will be able to give audio data on time, distance, pace and calories burned on-demand through an attachable reciever that gets data from a sensor in the insole of special Nike shoes. The new Air Zoom Moire line of running shoes-priced at $100- are the first to have space for the sensor. Apple will also include a Nike Sport Music section on its iTunes music store. Horizon has created this unique toy- a miniature fuel cell car and hydrogen refuelling station. Hydrogen is produced externally and can be fuelled into an on-board storage tank. Once the car's hydrogen tank is full, the refuelling station can be disconnected from the car and it can run on its own on-board hydrogen fuel cell system with the simple flip of a switch. New search software for PCs!!!!

Microsoft plans software that simultaneously finds information on PCs, the internet and the corporate network. The free download will be released later this year. Called Windows Live Search, this software will be an add-on to Microsoft's current product for scouring the PC desktop, available now as a free download and slated to be included in the Windows Vista OS. Microsoft will also offer a scaled-down version of SharePoint for corporate search. It will be available later this year, when Microsoft releases a slew of new Office products and server software to businesses. Consumer versions of Office and Windows are due out early next year.

The new LG M-6100 phone comes packed with some interesting features including a pre-installed dictionary. The 88gm slider-phone, which sports a 128x160 pixels (256K colour)TFT, comes complete with GPRS, Bluetooth, miniUSB and a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash. A prototype model of an 'electronic paper' consisting of a 7.8-inch VGA 512 colour LCD capable of displaying an image continuosly without electric power, is showcased at the Fujitsu company's advanced technology exhibition, in Tokyo. The e-paper is flexible and does not blur even if it is bent or pressed by finger.

The world's first notebook PC produced by Japanese electronics giant Sony that comes complete with a BLu-ray disk drive has been launched. The 'Vaio Type A'- equipped with Intel's Core Duo T2500 processor, a 200GB HDD and a 17-inch widescreen LCD screen (1,920x1,200 pixels) which enables it to display full high-definition images recorded on a Blu-ray disk- will retail at an estimated price of 4,00,000 Yen.

It can even synchronise with a PC through the USB port and provides possibility of downloading files through Internet using WAP 2.0 and GPRS. Besides, infra-red and Bluetooth can also be used for data transfers. The slider,which boasts of 60MB internal memory, also has options for expandable MicroSD memory card.

Xbox 360



Microsoft has announced a cross-platform gaming service that integrates games played on cell phones, Xbox 360 consoles and the upcoming Windows Vista operating system. The "Live Anywhere" service will be available as part of Windows Vista, Microsoft's next-gen PC operating system. The platform will unleash developers to do amazing things. The system would extend the company's existing Xbox Live service for the Xbox 360 console into million's of internet-enabled PCs and cellular phones. An Xbox 360 gamer using 'Live Anywhere' is able to send invitation to a friend on a PC. After the PC user agreed, the two get connected for a croos-platform online gun battle. The company has also announced an HD-DVD player, an 'Xbox Live Vision' video camera, a wireless head set and a wireless racing wheel to be launched later.

PLAYSTATION 3


Sony's PlayStation 3 will be equipped with a 'Cell' processor, jointly developed with IBM and Toshiba, which is 35 times faster than existing PS2 consoles about twice as quick as the Xbox 360. Sony is also using its next- gen Blu-ray Disc technology in the PS3 in the aim of making it a home entertainment centre.There are two disk drive versions, first one of 20GB and the other of 60GB disk drive.

Intel's next-gen chip


Intel plans to unveil a single brand name for a new generation of chips for laptop PCs and desktop machines, calling them the 'Core 2 Duo'. The processor giant's new architecture, dubbed 'core', delivers two processors on a single chip, driving better performance while consuming less power. Core 2 Duo will phase out the Pentium 4 brand for desktop processors and the Core Duo for laptop chips. The chips, code-named Conroe for desktops and Merom for laptops, are scheduled to start shipping in the third quarter. Intel also has plans for a high-performance processor for computer games : the Core 2 extreme. The Core 2 Duo uses a new manufacturing process that shrinks the size of a chip's circuitry which allows Intel to put more transistors on a single chip, boosting performance and power efficiency. Intel executives said on March the Conroe will deliver 40 percent better performance and consume 40 percent less power.

BABYBOT



BabyBot, a robot modelled on the torso of a two-year child, is helping researchers take the first, tottering steps towards understanding human perception, and could lead to the development of machines that can percieve and interact with their environment. The researchers used BabyBot to test a model of the human sense of 'presense', a combination of senses like sight, hearing and touch. The work could have applications in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine perception. The research is being funded under the European Commission's FET (Future and Emerging Technologies) initiative of the IST programme, as part of the ADAPT programme .
